Welcome to my website!

I am a professor of mathematics at Texas State University in San Marcos. My research areas include: Combinatorial Number Theory, Graph Theory, and Computer Network Theory. My recent teaching includes calculus, discrete mathematics, and combinatorics. Please visit the university TRACS for more teaching information.

I received my undergraduate degree in mathematics in December 1981 from Qufu Normal University in China, and Ph.D. in combinatorial number theory under the direction of Dr. Melvyn B. Nathanson in May 1990 from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

I worked as an instructor of mathematics at Fordham University in New York City in 1989-90. After that, I have been working in the Department of Mathematics at Texas State University as Assistant Professor (1990-93), Associate Professor (1993-96), and Professor (1996-present).

I like walking and talking with friends. I also like photography. Here you can find more information about me.

Recent Activities:

  • A survey paper titled "On exact order of asymptotic bases and bases for finite cyclic groups" has been accepted in a special volume dedicated to Professor Melvyn B. Nathanson's 60th birthday. Dr. Nathanson was my thesis advisor. Mel, thank you for your guidance and encouragement! Happy birthday!
  • Talk at Fordham University in May 2009. The talk was on combinatorial networks.
  • Visited China in June 2009. Because of H1N1 flu, canceled most visits to different universities in China. But I managed to visit Weifang University, which is in the town my parents live. I met wonderful people there!
  • Editor for a special issue on Combinatorial Networks in the Journal of Interconnection Networks, September 2009 (joint with Prof Lih-Hsing Hsu, Providence University). This issue will appear any moment.
  • Organizer for a special session with Prof L.-H. Hsu at the ISPAN conference in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. December 14-16, 2009.
  • Working on the joint book with D. Frank Hsu "Combinatorial Networks". Yes, still working on it. However, we have made significant progress, and we think that we will be able to get it ready within next few months.
